Prince Caspian

The second installment of the chronicles of Narnia based on the novels by C.S. Lewis did not disappoint! I was a little worried at first because I got confused by the story line in the beginning …but no need to worry, it all comes together during the movie.

The film depicts a young prince persecuted by his own people and is forced to seek refuge with the so believed extinct Narnians. The prince then seeks help from the Kings and Queens of old (Peter, Susan, Edward, and Lucy) who find themselves in a very different Narnia. Its 1300 years later in a time where Narnia is in ruin and mus once again unite to defeat an evil force.

This film is great because you get to experience the coming of age of different characters. The graphics were once again superb! The only thing is that I would not recommend seeing this film with very young children, and the movie is quite long (137 minutes).

Iron Man

The comic book hero movie of the summer is here. Aren’t viewers tired of these re-enactment of favorite comic books? The answer with regard to this movie is a firm NO! After a couple of blockbuster comic book movie DUDS such as Spiderman 3, Daredevil, and Elektra, I was starting to wonder if this movie was going to be the same!

The truth is that Robert Downey Jr. did a fairly good job in the role of Tony Stark who creates this Iron Man in order to escape from terrorists trying to steal his defense arms designs. Starks, then continues to perfect his design in order to protect people affected by the black market sale of his own company’s defense arms designs. Other actors to be watched in this movie are Gwyneth Paltrow in the role of Starks’ assistant Pepper Pots, Terrence Howard in the role of James Rhodes and Jeff Bridges in the role of Obadiah Stane.

The movie has great special effects and I must admit that seeing Iron Man in his first fight seen was pretty awsome!

The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass is a film that takes you into a new world where every human being’s soul is shaped like an animal and walks, flies, swims, struts, etc beside. The story depicts a young orphan (Lyra) with unusual foresight aided by this Golden Compass who must go through a series of trials to save her friend, only to discover that there is much more to this rescue mission.

The stars of the movie include such big names as Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Eva Green, and introducing a new young star in Dakota Blue Richards. This group of actors have brought Philip Pullman’s first of three books (His Dark Materials) to life.

This movie has outstanding visual effects and demonstrates the true qualities that computer technology has to offer. The pictures come right from the book. The only bad part is for book lovers who read the book then see the movie!

As a book lover myself, I had actually seen the movie and couldn’t wait for the sequals to know what happens and rushed out to buy the books. Only to find out that the movie is in complete disaray from the book. The sequence of the scenes in the book doesn’t represent the sequence of events in the book. I’m sure the writers have a good reason for this if not to juice up the second part of this trilogy since in the second book there is far less action than in the first and third books.

Overall this movie is very entertaining and grabbed my attention! I encourage everybody to rent it and even buy it…it is a good purchase. The movie comes out on DVD April 30th,2008.
