It’s all about the 100 calorie snack!Frito Lay 100-calorie

Seems like all you see companies advertising is their 100 calorie snacks. Nabisco has come out with their own Oreo, Fudgeo, or other cookie “Thins”, Frito Lay has come out with its version of the 100 calorie snack with its baked Lays and Cheetos, and Doritos. The question is AT WHAT PRICE?

Most of these snacks are so overpriced you could be getting 3 times the amount of another homemade 100 calorie snack instead of buying these rip-off snacks.  The truth is that YES they are 100 calories…but what kind of calories….look on the side of the box and see how many grams of fat, sugar, etc. and how many grams of fiber, or protein there is….the answer is NOT VERY MUCH!

Nabisco 100-calorieNow I know what you’re thinking! Isn’t this supposed to be a movie review site…well yes it is…but you often snack at the movies, and in an effort to provide some movie going tips…one must also consider snacking tips!

So the tip with regards to 100 calorie snacks:

Don’t fall for the commercials that try and fool you into thinking that your so called chips and cookies are now healthy because they come in 100 calorie size packs! The trick is to combine some healthy foods that have healthy ingredients and make them more appealing!

For example: One of my all time favorites is popcorn flavored rice cakes (or any other type of rice cakes) topped off with either a tsp of one of the following:

-Light cream cheese

-Chunky peanut butter

-Honey

-Hazlenut chocolate spread (Nutella)

etc. The trick is to be creative!

Rice cakes, depending on the type contain about 34 calories (good calories including protein), the toppings stated above are also healthy….Honey for example has a lot of sugar, but if you have a good brand of honey, it actually has natural sugars and is very healthy.

Remember if you can’t pass up your movie popcorn at the theater…the trick is moderation-moderation-moderation. Try to opt for the regular sized popcorn instead of the large, and have some water instead of the calorie saturated soda or pop!
